Press Releases > Fundraising firefighters offer a helping hand

Firefighters across Norfolk will be offering a helping hand this weekend while raising funds for an excellent cause.

Saturday September 16 is the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund National Fundraising Day and the county council's firefighters will be doing all kinds of helpful things to raise funds.

Among events taking place watches from Sprowston, Norwich and North Earlham will be helping shoppers pack their bags and offering fire safety advice at ASDA Supermarket, Drayton Road, Norwich, from 10am. Each bag packed will have a fire safety leaflet added and a fire safety prize draw questionnaire for return to Sprowston Fire Station and entry into a prize draw.  ASDA has donated a £20 gift token as the prize.

In Great Yarmouth you can get your car washed by crews at the at Great Yarmouth Fire Station from 11am. a raffle is being held at The Clipper (pub next to the fire station) and first prize is a remote controlled Ferrari.

Firefighter Mark Trudgill, from Great Yarmouth Fire Station, said: "Many thanks to B&Q who have already sponsored us by supplying buckets and sponges. Refreshments will be available while you wait and free fire safety advice will also be at hand. Car washing will be carried out by members of Blue Watch and the Retained crew plus Cadets from Gorleston. So we are looking forward to a good day and invite you to come along. We want you to leave with a cleaner car and a safer home."

At all events there will be a chance to make a charity donation to the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund - the UK's injured firefighter charity.

Benevolent Fund Chief Executive, Roy Lawrenson, said: "As the UK's fire charity we see how well-trained and courageous firefighters are. It's worth remembering that when everyone is running out of a burning building, these brave men and women are running in. We are here to support injured firefighters when they need support and you can help us to help them."

Watches will be helping shoppers pack their bags and offering fire safety advice at ASDA Supermarket, Drayton Road, Norwich, from 10am on Saturday.

Fire crews will be washing cars at Great Yarmouth Fire Station from 11am to 3pm on Saturday.
