If you need a school visit we target these at Year 2 for Key Stage 1, Year 5 for Key Stage 2 and Year 8 for Key Stage 3. If you have someone who is fire-setting and wish to discuss this with one of our advisors please contact us. We are sometimes also able to attend Community events but this will depend on resources, and we tend to target this to priority areas of our service. We do always look forward to hearing from you with any other queries.

Mundesley is a rural coastal village in North Norfolk, Population approx 3000, there has been a fire station in the village for 90-100 years initially in Back St, and in it's present location in Trunch Rd since 1965 , we have 10 personnel, most of which work locally and we respond to 90-100 calls a year.
Firefighting in Mundesley began in the early 1920’s with volunteers who worked in the local building trade, & water & gas industries making up a fire crew, in the event of fire they would use a horse drawn manually operated pump. With no permanent fire station the pump was housed anywhere available, usually local farm buildings.
In the early 1930’s a building in Back Street was acquired to use as a fire station, & a steam driven Merryweather fire engine obtained from Cromer replaced the old pump, the steam engine would have to be lit on arrival by responding crewmembers & would have to be readied with wood on their return ready for the next shout.
The engine pistons would also have to be cranked over by hand once a month to stop them from seizing. Before the advent of sirens, bells & before phones were common place, calls were taken at a manually- operated telephone exchange in Manor Rd, calls were then transferred to a private address in Back St, where the owners would set off maroons to alert the crew.
In 1939, on the outbreak of World war 2 the National fire service was formed, & a Chevrolet car towing a Dennis trailer pump was supplied to replace the steam engine, following the war the Chevy was replaced by an Austin ATV (Appliance towing vehicle), the Dennis trailer pump remained, & the ATV had the advantage of a 100 gallon water tank on board & a hosereel .
As time went on the fire service started looking for a more suitable location for a fire station, & land was obtained in Trunch Rd, which was in use as allotments, and in those days the railway line (Next to the orchard, now Primrose Close) & the railway bridge over Trunch Rd were all still in place.
The new fire station was completed in 1965, and a short time later a Brand new Commer fire engine arrived, and as time went by, this was later replaced with a Dodge followed by a Dennis, & in December 1994 was replaced again with a Mercedes 1222 (H453 SCL) which is still in use today as our current fire engine.
