Carrow Fire & Rescue Station Demographic and Incident Profile
Carrow Fire & Rescue Station is located to the South of the city of Norwich and immediately north of the village of Trowse.
The Station was opened on 24 August 2011.
The Station has modern facilities for staff, visitors and has community facilities as well as providing the city of Norwich and the county of Norfolk with a range of services:
• An Operational Fire and Rescue Response to a wide spectrum of emergency incidents.
• Fire Safety enforcement to the Central District.
• Petroleum legislation enforcement covering the whole of Norfolk.
• A Community Safety Advocate
• Fire Investigation.
• East of England Ambulance NHS Trust reporting/response Station.
The operational Fire and Rescue Station is managed on the 4 Watch Duty System basis which provides 24 hour cover. Each watch consists of 6 Fire fighters and 2 Supervisory Managers. The operational crews work tirelessly throughout the year to both mitigate risk where they can and prepare for any eventualities that may occur, both within the stations areas of responsibility and throughout Norfolk.
The District and Station Managers operate on a flexible duty system providing operational level 2 and 3 operational cover across Norwich and the county of Norfolk. These officers also provide the following specialist skills.
• Hazardous Materials and environmental protection advisors
• Fire Investigation
• Safely Event Investigation
• Resilience officers trained to contribute to & Support USAR, High Volume Pump & IRS capabilities at both local and national major incidents.
A Heavy Rescue Pump, Technical rescue Unit, Foam Trailer and Rescue Boat are located at the Station.
East of England Ambulance NHS Trust share the building arrangements with us and we are lucky to have a team that staff the Rapid Response Vehicle operating from Carrow. These teams bring a high level of medical expertise to emergency medical situations.
Carrow also provides a team of enforcement officers and an effective support infrastructure. These Officers operate within normal office hours with the District Station Managers providing 24 hour resilience within this field of operations.
Our Community Safety Advocate is building on her recent work streams and provides high level intervention to the most vulnerable members of our community.
Watch Managers Al Nicholls and Brett Hopcroft support the district and the Central Training and development centre by providing & verifying training as well as having the skills to recognise, manage and reduce some of our more difficult operational risks.
Looking forward to the year ahead, plans are well under way for us to be a major player contributing to both local as well as national flood response by providing one of the four Swift Water Rescue teams in Norfolk. At the time of writing we have Fire Fighters away acquiring skills that will equip them to manage the most challenging water rescue scenarios safely.
