What to do if you come across a crash
This is a picture of a crash recreated for television, but would you know what to do if you were first on the scene?

In 2008 firefighters from Diss helped to recreate a road crash for television. This was a real incident which they had attended. The following are some photographs of the mock crash.
But what would you do if you were involved in a crash or stopped to give assistance?
Here are some tips:
- use your hazard warning lights to warn other traffic
- ask drivers to switch off their engines and stop smoking
- arrange for the emergency services to be called immediately using 999 with full details of the incident location and any casualties.
- move uninjured people away from the vehicles to safety; on fast roads such as dual carriageways this should, if possible, be well away from the traffic and the central reservation
- do not move injured people from their vehicles unless they are in immediate danger from fire or explosion
- do not remove a motorcyclist’s helmet unless it is essential to do so
- be prepared to give first aid as shown in 'First aid on the road'
- stay at the scene until emergency services arrive.
