In 2008 firefighters from Diss helped to recreate a road crash for television. This was a real incident which they had attended. The following are some photographs of the mock crash.

But what would you do if you were  involved in a crash or stopped  to give assistance?

Here are some tips:

  • use your hazard warning lights to warn other traffic
  • ask drivers to switch off their engines and stop smoking
  • arrange for the emergency services to be called immediately using 999 with full details of the incident location and any casualties.
  • move uninjured people away from the vehicles to safety; on fast roads such as dual carriageways this should, if possible, be well away from the traffic and the central reservation
  • do not move injured people from their vehicles unless they are in immediate danger from fire or explosion
  • do not remove a motorcyclist’s helmet unless it is essential to do so
  • be prepared to give first aid as shown in 'First aid on the road'
  • stay at the scene until emergency services arrive.
